It is hard to describe how quintessentially British these legendary Hammer movies are. With Val Guest directing and scripts by Nigel Beale, they are pure classics.
THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT
At 52 years-old this remains one of the most
mesmerizing sci-fi films ever made. With its
uniquely tense atmosphere, a great
performance by Richard Wordsworth and the
intelligent script, this film experience will keep
you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Quatermass is the brilliant scientist behind the launch of a rocket and its crew of three into space. Its ambition is to travel distances beyond any reached by previous missions. However, a problem leads to the rocket crashing just outside London. Two crew members have seemingly vanished into thin air while the third (Wordsworth) seems 'possessed'.
QUATERMASS II
Quatermass is intrigued by the mysterious blips
on his radar – meteorites perhaps? He makes his
way to where he'd expect them to land only to
discover a destroyed village, a mysterious
factory and some strange, aerodynamic objects
containing a gas that infects his assistant.
Again, deeply eerie and still standing the test of time, this is the second in Hammer Films' trio of screen versions of Nigel Beale's classic 1950s BBC serials.
