UK Web and Mini Comix Thing

What digital video cameras have done for independent filmmakers, the web has done for comic book artists. OK, comix have been around for a long time, even before the advent of photocopiers, but with the rise of the web commix have been able to reach a much wider audience that paper versions cannot.

The UK Web and Mini Comix Thing is a celebration of the independent spirit of UK comics and the small presses that try to push the boundaries and bring to fruition ideas that the mainstream publishers won’t look at for whatever reason; usually attached to bottom lines and financial returns.

This show is a real mixed bag and expect to see everything from sci-fi and fantasy to the obtuse and plain weird. And just because it is called Web Comix does not mean it will be people staring at computers because it is a chance to talk to the creators and see their work on paper, which will be available for sale. You can also take your own work down to show to the exhibitors. These events are always relaxed and friendly, much like our own festival, except these people aren’t closed in darkened rooms for hours on end – well at least not during the event.

The show is held on March 11 at the Great Hall, Mile End. Tickets are only £3 on the door or £2.50 in advance. So if you want to see something different from the standard Marvel/DC fare then it is worth a day out.

And speaking of web comics – check out Starscape Comics for a taster of web comics with a leaning towards Sci Fi.
