SFL6 Day Three

Friday was a surprisingly quiet day at the Festival. The Cine Excess conference carried on throughout the day, with an amazing lunch put on for the delegates and SFL volunteers with Middle-Eastern food from The Souk in Adelaide Street, near Charing Cross Station.

Come 5 o’clock there was a big crowd gathering to hear special guest John Landis be interviewed for the An American Filmmaker in London session. Landis had been entertaining us for the last two days with his tales from the film industry and his opinions on the state of the world. For example, a casual mention of one of his less successful films, INTO THE NIGHT, erupted into an outspoken and hilarious diatribe of the state of Middle Eastern and international politics.

During the interview to a capacity audience, which covered his films and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON in particular, he gave a blistering and uproarious critique of Zack Snyder’s film 300. Watch out for video extracts on the site soon.

After the talk, Landis met with fans, signed autographs and posed for photos before being whisked off for yet another radio interview.

Again good crowds for the evening’s films which included Canadian comedy RUN ROBOT RUN, New Zealand horror film THE FERRYMAN, another anime from the all-nighter programme, GHOST IN THE SHELL: SOLID STATE SOCIETY, which was introduced by the knowledgeable and entertaining Jonathan Clements, along with Hugh David from ADV and Jerome Mazandarani from Manga, to celebrate 20 years of Production IG. The final film of the night was PROXIMA, from Spanish director Carlos Atanes.
