A rare chance to see an original 1956 35mm print of this sci-fi classic.

This groundbreaking movie of the fifties is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. It has an intelligent story, excellent special effects, a brilliant electronic soundtrack and one of the best robots ever to be created, Robbie.

The Freudian overtones in the storyline, more implicit than explicit, give an added depth to an already great story which alludes to Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. This movie has everything – loss of innocence, greed, jealousy, and power struggles. Being attacked by the ultimate ‘something under the bed’ monster, namely our own subconscious, the Id Monster rivals any foe seen in the movies today.

Forbidden Planet has influenced so many science fiction movies and still holds its own alongside more recent classics such as 2001, Star Wars and so on.

In conjunction with Film Education, we are holding a special ‘schools only’ screening. Journalist and Media Studies teacher, Mark Cook, will introduce the screening. Contact Nick Walker at Film Education for more details (www.filmeducation.org).
