Coming Soon

Coming soon are a couple of new sci-fi and fantasy epics from Hollywood directors known for making blockbusters. First up is JUMPER from Doug Liman, who brought us actioners THE BOURNE IDENTITY and MR & MRS SMITH. Starring Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell Samuel L. Jackson and based on the Steven Gould novel, JUMPER follows a young man from a broken home who discovers that he has the ability to teleport. In his quest for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his mother, the youth draws the attention of the National Security Agency and another young man with the same abilities. There are certain rules that bind Jumpers and what they can do – and they are also hunted by a secret organisation called the Paladins who think that Jumpers are dangerous and have to be killed.

The concept is sound and the trailer looks promising, so let’s hope we don’t have to resort to using bad puns that include the words woolly and bridges. We’ll bring you a review as soon as we can.

And speaking of things woolly – mammoths feature heavily in the prehistoric action film 10,000 BC from Roland Emmerich, who brought us such subtle films as INDEPENDENCE DAY, GODZILLA and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. This is pure fantasy about heroes and ancient civilizations made in a style similar to his previous outings.
