3 hours of DV and effects workshops
·Curzon SOHO, 1st Feb, 10.30am

So, Hollywood spends a squillion dollars a year on sci-fi movies like Minority Report with more special effects than you can shake a stick at. In our opinion sci-fi does not need to have lots of expensive FX, the same rules apply to all good film - script! Tell a good story, shot it in an interesting way and it works. Simple huh.

Given that, we present a lo-no budget workshop. First we look at the equipment, Johnny Oddball and OnlineGB take you through DV cameras and some of the techniques you can use to get the best out of them.

We also have the cast and crew from 'The Making of Juice' - a 10 minute sci-fi spoof, made for the Digital Guerilla Filmmakers 48 hour film challenge.

Followed by a demonstration of editing and low-end effects using standard computer equipment. Michael O'Neill of Adobe walks through what you can do with software like Premiere and After Effects...

Ok, sci-fi does need loads of FX, but when you want to add them you can make a movie look great with the right care and attention... and it needn't cost a fortune.

At Noon, we have a Q&A with the effects team who made our 2002 Best Short Film, Inferno (2002, Director: Paul Kousalides). We end the whole morning with a screening of Inferno on a new 35mm print - awesome!
