Make the
trailer of the sci-fi
movie you'd like to make...
in a week!

Well done to all those who entered...
·Curzon SOHO, Jan 18, 9.30am

The challenge is underway and the entries have already started to come in! First completed trailer done in one day!

If you want to take part you have until Sun 25th to deliver your tape back to us. The information you would have got at the morning briefing is this:

Your trailer must include the following "introducing Johnnie Oddball as...." - Interpret that however you like.

Good Luck!

In conjunction with DIGITAL GUERRILLA FILMMAKERS, we are looking forward to all you filmmakers taking the challenge. So here's the story.

We challenge you to make a 3 minute film trailer for the science fiction movie you would like to make. It could be a serious 2001-style movie, a Galaxy Quest type spoof or a Tarkovsky-style dripfest... we don't care. All we ask is that you follow the simple rules of the challenge.

The trailer must be between 60 and 180 seconds, must be delivered to us by the closing date on MiniDV, must be an original idea - no trailers for movies that actually exist!

The trailers can contain music, voice-over, whatever... you can also include a website address on the trailer, which could be useful if someone sees your trailer and wants to really make it into a feature!

We will have several awards for the challenge including:
· 1st Prize
· 2nd Prize
· 3rd Prize
· Worst Trailer
· Cheesiest Trailer
· Audience's Favourite

The winning trailers will get goodies, kudos and be played throughout the festival and as part of our closing night screening. The winning trailer will also be added to the fantastic TRAILERVISION and ifilm websites.

The final 10 trailers will be screened by an industry audience and an overall winner chosen! - Could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Prizes also include full copies of some great software, courtesy of OnlineGB.com and Adobe UK.

  • Adobe Digital Video Collection
  • Adobe Production bundle
  • Adobe Photoshop Version 7

Check the details below for the low-down on the challenge and get your thinking caps on!

THE RULES:
1. All trailers must be between 60 and 180 seconds.

2. Trailers must be for an original project, not a completed existing movie.

3. Trailers must be delivered on TAPE (we will accept any format, not just MiniDV). We don't care what you shoot it or make it on (35mm, Flash, crayons on paper...)

4. To take part you MUST register with us at the Curzon SOHO on Saturday Jan 18th 2003. Registration opens at 9.30am and we present the challenge information in Screen 1 at 10.30am. We should be presenting for about 30 minutes max!

5. The final entry tape of your trailer must be delivered back to the Curzon SOHO on Sunday Jan 26th between Noon and 6pm.
No tapes accepted by post or outside of these times.

Tapes do NOT need colour bars, tones or any other info - just your trailer.

If adding credits etc, they must be within the 180 second limit.

Do not try making or submitting your trailer in advance. The point of the challenge is to see what cool and funny stuff you can come up with in seven days!

On the day of registration you will be given some additional information that is not on this site or anywhere else. The new info you will receive MUST be included in your completed trailer!!!

Of course you can think the idea up now, you could even do a little prep work... but remember the trailer must include the additional info we give you on the day!

When you take part in the challenge, whilst the content and the idea are still yours, you grant SCI-FI-LONDON and its chosen 3rd party partners the rights to screen, copy and include the trailer on a DVD, website and any other format (not limited to these either). Again, we do not own the idea or the content, but want non-exclusive rights to the trailer. Full credits will be given to you for the trailer on anything it might be used on.

Other than these simple rules, have fun and good luck.
If you need any further information... come along on the 18th Jan at 9.30am!
