Clarke Award shortlist announced

In conjunction with SCI-FI-LONDON, the 20th Arthur C. Clarke Award will be presented on Wednesday 26th April 2006.

Between now and then you have the chance to read all six books in the shortlist which are:

Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro (Faber)
Learning The World – Ken MacLeod (Orbit)
Pushing Ice – Alastair Reynolds (Gollancz)
Air – Geoff Ryman (Gollancz)
Accelerando – Charles Stross (Orbit)
Banner Of Souls – Liz Williams (Tor)

Including Geoff Ryman, a Canadian long resident in the UK, this is the first all-British shortlist in the history of the Award. Ryman has won the Award previously, for The Child Garden in 1990; Ken MacLeod and Alastair Reynolds have both been shortlisted previously.

The jury consists of Stuart Carter, Simon Morden, Dave Palmer, David Pringle and Graham Sleight. The chairman of the judges is Paul Kincaid.

Well done to all the nominees.

We at the festival are really pleased to have received this comment from SIr Arthur who said “I’m delighted that the Arthur C. Clarke Award, now recognised as one of the world’s leading science fiction awards, is joining hands with the UK’s only dedicated science fiction and fantastic film festival, SCI-FI LONDON. Like 2001: A Space Odyssey, it’s the perfect union of literature and film, and I hope it would be a long and fruitful partnership.”

See you in April!
