Continuing the Joss Whedon genre theme from last week, this week’s classic film is about a vampire slayer. Far from being a blonde female it is horror-meister, Vincent Price, as scientist Robert Morgan, in a post-apocalyptic world. The Last Man on Earth is based on Richard Matheson’s science fiction classic I am Legend, which was remade as The Omega Man with Charlton Heston. I am Legend was also the inspiration behind George A Romero’s Night of the Living Dead.

In a similar vein is Y: The Last Man by Brian Vaughan and Pia Guerra, a series of graphic novels about Yorick, the sole survivor of a virus that instantly kills all the male inhabitants of the planet, leaving him alone in a world occupied only by women, and not all of them want him to survive.
