LOST PLANET™: EXTREME CONDITION FOR XBOX 360

Set within the ruthless conditions of an ice-veiled planet, humankind struggles for survival as colonisation initiatives clash with menacing alien creatures with a gripping single player campaign and numerous multiplayer modes.

In LOST PLANET, human snow pirates navigate VS (Vital Suits) through unforgiving arctic environments, fighting against the indigenous Akrid creatures for the precious thermal energy they need to survive. For one such pilot named Wayne, death almost seemed imminent until he was fortunately rescued. However, he can only remember a few fragments of his past including the slaying of his father by these enigmatic menaces. Yet under the shroud of ice, a devious plan has been set into motion by the Neo Venus Construction Corporation (NEVEC) that plans to sterilise the world of all Akrid and snow pirates alike. What really happened to Wayne and how will his destiny become intertwined with NEVEC’s plans?

Taking advantage of Xbox 360’s power, LOST PLANET contains a high level of detail as advanced light sourcing is used to give a realistic presentation that enhances every explosion, smoke and particle effect. Enormous world maps unfold as players battle the hostile creatures during blistering weather conditions throughout vast snowfields and deserted cities either on foot or with armed vehicles.

Features include:
• Extreme conditions – Battle enemies and the environment. Conserve heat from enemy bodies and keep killing, before your temperature drops.

• Survival tools – Defeat giant Akrid using numerous weapons and “Vital Suits” that can upgrade into fast-moving vehicles and heavy tanks.

• Band together – Beyond the 12 epic single-player missions, take the battle for survival online with unique 16-player multi-player modes.

LOST PLANET is released on January 12 2007 and can be ordered now from Amazon or Play.

STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCE

The fate of the galaxy is in your hands. No, it’s not a feeble attempt at schoolboy toilet humour, but an announcement of the first original Star Wars game built exclusively for the PSP® and Nintendo DS Handheld Systems

Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, under a long-term licensing partnership with LucasArts, have created STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCE. This is the first original Star Wars game built exclusively for the PSP system and DS, immersing players in an adventure that takes place between EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH and EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE. Gamers will engage in collaborative gameplay as they embody both Twi’lek Rianna Saren and her security droid Zeeo. Hired by the Rebel Alliance, this deadly duo must work together to infiltrate Imperial planets and fight legions of evil fiends. Our heroes’ ultimate goal: Uncover the Empire’s most deadly secret: the Death Star.

Key Features:
One-of-a-kind collaborative fighting: Combine the elite weaponry and acrobatic skills of Rianna with the multifunctional defensive and slicing support of Zeeo to create a formidable team. Only by working together can you complete perilous missions and ultimately steal the plans for the Death Star.

Epic gameplay and cinematic action: From the chaotic planet of Coruscant to the dusty, dangerous alleys of Mos Eisley, Rianna and Zeeo must use an arsenal of tricks to complete their mission. Set up holographic disguises to fool Imperial guards, commandeer gun turrets, master death-defying flying escapes and battle carnivorous beasts.

First original Star Wars game built exclusively for handhelds: Multiplayer modes enhance collaborative gameplay while taking advantage of the unique capabilities of both the PSP system and Nintendo DS.

Iconic environments and characters: Your mission takes you to classic destinations such as the Death Star and Tatooine, and allows you to discover never-before-seen locations on Despayre, Danuta and Alderaan. Each new environment offers encounters with unforgettable Star Wars characters and species, including Boba Fett, Kyle Katarn, Princess Leia Organa, Darth Vader, Imperial officers, Rodians, Quarren and stormtroopers.

STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCE is available now from Amazon and Play

RULE OF ROSE

For those of you who were wondering what happened to RULE OF ROSE, the game we reported last month, well it seems the powers that be who deem what is appropriate for us to see have made enough noise that the game’s publisher have postponed its release.

The game attracted a lot of negative reaction from certain self-appointed protectors of public decency, these being the Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni and Europe’s Justice Minister, Franco Frattini. This is a bit hypocritical, coming from a country whose national church’s record of child abuse is not only widespread and shameful but also generally covered up. Or is this backlash generated by the guilt which that religion is so famous for instilling in its followers? And what about all the real violence meted out by that country’s organised crime, which is then imitated in games? If you have any comments on this then feel free to share them in our Forum.
