For fan boys of a certain age the arrival of the live action version of TRANSFORMERS will be like a wet dream come true. The original toys were a collaboration between Japanese manufacturer Takara and US toymaker Hasbro and first appeared in 1984. For the uninitiated, Transformers are cleverly designed and engineered robot toys that can transform from an intelligent machine into an innocuous form, such as a vehicle. The toys spawned a Marvel Comic, which set up the whole mythology and this was later adapted into an animated TV series and a feature length animation. New comics were still being printed in 2006 by IDW.
The live action movie is directed by Michael Bay and Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg. Let’s hope it is better than their last sci-fi efforts (THE ISLAND and THE WAR OF THE WORLDS respectively). It is due in cinemas in Summer 2007.
