Opening night

As the last minute preparations and transformation of the usually plush foyer of the Apollo West End were transformed into a bullet-riddled Dead Space, the entrance of the cinema was guarded by an unlikely alliance of Stormtroopers and Jedi Knights from the 99th Imperial Garrison. People were flocking to have their pictures taken with Darth, his troops and a scantily-clad Leia.

The main event of the evening was the Arthur C Clarke Awards, and its accompanying party. The SF literati gathered together to enjoy the SCI-FI-LONDON hospitality before the announcement of this year’s winner. After a brief introduction from Tom Hunter, and Angie Edwards’ touching, and inspiring, eulogy for the Award’s patron who died earlier this year, the Award was given to Richard Morgan for his novel Black Man.
