It’s interesting how science fiction films in particular tend to lend themselves to TV series from film origins, and can often more successful in that format. Terminator is another example, although the TV series hasn’t had anywhere near the success of the movie. However, films such as JUMPER, would definitely work as a TV series. One of the reasons for this is sci-fi stories are usually complex, involving big ideas and interesting characters that need more than 90 minutes to fully develop.
For a mediocre movie that didn’t attract a very big cinema audience, STARGATE has proved to be a massive success on television with both STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS attracting a huge number of loyal fans.
The fifth and final season of STARGATE ATLANTIS is coming out on DVD, starting with Volume 1 on May 11, with the following volumes coming out in two-week intervals.
STARGATE ATLANTIS Season 5 follows Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo) as he takes over command of the Atlantis team formerly led by Lt Col. John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan). Joined by Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), we follow the Atlantis team on their final expedition to the mysterious and mystifying Pegasus galaxy where they face the fierce and formidable enemy, the Wraith, while they adjust to Woolsey’s unique leadership.
This final season guest stars some of STARGATE’s all-time favourite cast members including Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), Dr Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) and Dr. Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion). As an additional feature with the release of Volume 1 of the new Season 5 DVD, fans will receive an exclusive decoder card that will enable them to uncover all the Atlantis glyph symbols that are on the inside of all of the Season 5 Volumes 1 to 5 DVDs. Once the glyph symbols have been identified, fans can log onto www.dvdatlantis.com to access the Restricted Area. With each new Season 5 DVD release, the website will be updated with exclusive content, including unique downloads and great competitions.
