20th Festival of Fantastic Films – 2009

The Festival of Fantastic Films, held over 48 hours in October, at The Manchester Conference Centre, is an annual movie based event, in the form of a Convention / Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror movies.

The Festival was originally devised in late 1989, as a retrospective event, with the first guest being the tremendous animator Ray Harryhausen, and is still running some 20 years later.

Among the films confirmed in this, its anniversary year, are the German movie fresh from Sitges, Porto and Berlin: ‘Virus Undead’, a Coffin Joe double bill of ‘Embodiment of Evil’ and ‘At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul’. Showing for the first time in the UK: ‘Night Of The Living Dead 3D’, the Japanese movie ‘Meatball Machine’, and the Horror Documentary: ‘Nightmares In Red, White & Blue’, as well as several older movies to tie in with the stars and fans preferences.

The line up of guests in 2009 includes Actors Ian McCulloch and Derren Nesbitt, Actresses Jenny Hanley and Emily Booth, Director/Writer Robert Fuest, and Composer John Scott.

The Festival is designed as an eclectic mix of events, including Panel Discussions on movies, Amateur & Independent Film Competitions, Interviews and Autograph Sessions, a Film Fair, as well as the infamous Auction!

Cost of entry for the weekend is £70, with deals at certain hotels for accommodation available.

The Festival of Fantastic Films – 2009, runs from 16th – 18th October, 2009, at the Day’s Hotel, Sackville St., Manchester (The Manchester Conference Centre).
