How to get the most out of the SCI-FI-LONDON 8

With the festival rapidly approaching, the programme up and tickets already disappearing for a bunch of our showings we thought we’d make it nice and easy for festival-goers to keep track of what’s going on this year. From planning what you want to go to, to remembering what you’ve planned to go to, with forays into up to the moment news we’ve been putting together a package of utilities and planning tools to make sure you get the most out of the festival.

First up are our event pages, linked from the main festival programme. On each page we’ve got a bunch of information, giving you a rundown on the event as well as links to book tickets and add it to your Google calendar. We’ve also run through the program and picked out other films and talks that we think might pique your interest.

SCHED* Still in the realm of events we’ve partnered with SCHED* to bring you a personalised schedule building service over at http://sfl2009.sched.org. With this rather excellent site you can build your own schedule of events, put together group calendars, see what others are doing and export the whole lot to your local calendar for further tinkering. It’s all free, so sign-up (email address and phone number are optional) and have a play.

We’ve also got a bunch of google calenders out on the web for you to subscribe to if you want to see all the events going on. We’ve divided them up based on the type of event and you can see them by clicking on the following links:

For keeping an eye on things before, during and after the festival we have a few places to to keep up to date.

Firstly we have the obligatory Twitter account, which has been keeping its followers up to date with news about the festival as it’s become available and is around to answer questions and chat about SCI-FI-LONDON. During the festival we hope to keep tweeting with news of what’s going on, including any impromptu events, last minute changes, programme additions and goodie give-a-ways that might pop-up, so if you’re on twitter follow and @scifilondon us.

During the festival we’ll also be keeping the website up to date with rundowns of each day, interviews with our guests and video footage of how things are going. Our forums also remain open and ready for discussion of anything and everything festival related (or not) – there’s a specific 2009 Festival section as well as areas for general chat about the universe of SF, film, fantasy or whatever else takes your fancy.

We’ve also got groups up on Facebook, flickr, bebo and YouTube, come and join up and let us know what you think. Please post you pictures, comments and videos as it lets us know how things went from outside of the chaos that is the organisation of the festival.

Last but not least is our Dailymotion site. We’ve partnered with Dailymotion this year to bring you a channel full of trailers and films both short and long from this and previous years of the festival. We’ll also be releasing The Hunt for Gollum via Dailymotion at the same time as it receives its world premiere on the big screen during the festival.

So, in addition to our regular podcast and sci-fi news we’ve tried to put together an interesting package of stuff to help you get more out of the festival. We look forward to seeing you there.
